Tony Garan

1962 - 2022

Tony Garan's art is a metaphor for our fractured world. The hard edges and vivid colors that might be mistaken for decoration. He would like viewers to believe that the work is just what it appears to be–a way of keeping busy in which technique is image. It may even be that he believed this himself. He has no ax to grind, no influence to peddle. No agenda. But gnawing at the straight lines, extreme applications and witty designs is a muted clamor that suggests that Garan's works are manifestations of his own troubled psyche. "I have this really weird dream where I'm stuck in a shrink-wrap machine," Garan said. Whether or not intentional, Garan's work probes the social insanities of a seemingly dysfunctional world.
