Ruby Williams’ produce stand lies along a deserted stretch of Highway 60 near Plant City. She lives in a small trailer next to her garden and chicken coops and paints pictures beneath a wooden lean-to from which she oversees the sale of the fruits and vegetables. Her painting style, which evolved from the functional highway signs she placed along the road to whet the appetite of hungry travelers, often exclaims outrage – "Tired of being the nice guy!"; "I am a sophisticated person!"; "My name is Contrary!" The imagery is distinguished by her private longings and her emotions may seem dark despite their primary colors.
