Rodney Hardee's paintings convey his affability. On the back of his paintings are journal-like entries that read like his part of a casual phone conversation. Each piece also carries the message that "Jesus Loves You." Like many self-taught artists, Hardee's paintings lack the illusion of depth and the colors are applied without gradation. But his paintings, whether depictions of Adam and Eve or a barking dog, are pleasing, usually accented with gracefully climbing vines. Hardee seems happy to leave angst-ridden imagery to other, more tortured souls.
