Keith Campbell

1964 -

A few years after discovering Salvador Dali’s art, Keith “Scramble” Campbell’s mission became clear. He wanted the duality of his “perceptions and depictions of life’s puzzling meanings” to be a pathway to a collective consciousness. He practices “live art” (action painting) with bands and refers to his work as “painted music.” He wields a brush on stage while rock, jazz and punk bands play. His improvisational brushwork keeps the sway of the rhythm. He dances “to the energy of the music” while painting, and since the crowd is often far away from the stage, his movements are sure and exaggerated. Scramble’s palette resembles tie-dyed shirts, and his paintings appear hallucinogenic. Forms swirl and colors bubble like in a lava lamp.
