Celino Dimitroff

1958 -

With a lot of time on his hands, ideas coalesced, and Celino Dimitroff began gathering things with the intention of “turning funk into function.” It may have been Dimitroff’s deep-seated fear of the dark that was as responsible for his creations of “light as sculpture made from found objects.” His lamps are not to be used to light a room or even illuminate the pages of a book. It would be demeaning to describe the light his pieces cast as mood lighting. Although primarily aesthetic, his idea of function extends to compartments “for stash” that many of the pieces contain. But each of Dimitroff’s sculptures, when connected by “a lifeline” (extension cord), casts unexpected patterns of light against otherwise plain and predictable surfaces.
