About the Collector
Lance Walker is the world's leading collector of Highwaymen paintings and Florida Self-Taught artists. He is the executive producer of the documentary, "The Highwaymen." Among the cultural and philanthropic organizations on whose boards Mr. Walker serves, is the Orlando Museum of Art.
Mr. Walker's mission is to recognize and celebrate Florida's so-called Outsider art and artists. His forward thinking vision compliments established art museum and humanistic culture by expanding the range of Fien arts with fresh and challenging artworks by those who are not formally and/or academically trained.
It is not by chance that Lance Walker has ventured into this new territory. In 1879, his great grandfather, lumber baron Thomas Barlow Walker, built an art gallery onto his home in Minneapolis that expanded into the Walker Art Center. Today it is among the five most-visited modern/contemporary art museums in the United States.
As Mr. Walker continues to build and share his art collection, his philanthropic work helps ensure that wider and more diverse audiences, including inner city youths, have opportunities to explore new dimensions. His goals are to expand education, support art museums to develop exhibitions and programs that further serve the public, and celebrate self-taught artists that are represented in the Collection. In addition, he is president of Walker & Company, Inc., one of Central Florida's major commercial construction management/general contracting companies.
